Junior Games Artist

Plug-in Media is looking to find a Junior Games Artist to come and work in our busy studio in the heart of central Brighton. We have a full slate of diverse and exciting gaming and animation projects across several platforms, and are looking for some extra support across these projects over the summer and beyond.

Plug-in Media is a triple-BAFTA winning production studio with a reputation for producing work of the highest quality. We make games, apps and other interactive experiences for an enviable international client list consisting of the biggest names in entertainment both across the UK and in the USA.

As our junior games artist you will be a great designer but also have a strong grasp on the processes and pipelines that go into game development. The role is varied so we are looking for someone who is a great generalist, rather than specialising in one particular area. You will have a strong portfolio showing an excellent level of drawing ability, along with some examples of art for games you have produced.

You will be familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash/Animate, Spine and Unity. Key responsibilities will be assisting Plug-In Media’s creative department in production of art assets and animation for interactive and linear projects. You will also be responsible for working with our Dev department to place art within the game builds so experience of working within a 3D environment is desired.

Your tasks will involve:

• General mucking-in on live projects

Office Manager (Maternity Cover)

Plug-in Media is looking to recruit an Office Manager to cover maternity leave.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the management of all office operations and for the administration of a small but exceptionally busy team. You will also act as a Personal Assistant to the Managing Director and Creative Director.

Our busy studio has a positive and cheerful atmosphere, where everyone’s voice is heard. It’s true to say that while everyone here works hard, we all have a lot of fun doing it! We have regular company get togethers, barbeques, outings and show-and-tells. Your duties will include:
• Working as a PA to the directors: organising meetings, arranging travel and accommodation, fielding phone calls and managing their busy diaries.
• Assisting our book-keeper by raising invoices, tracking payments, managing petty cash and budgeting for small scale office projects.
• Helping to track and manage public funding spend.
• Helping with HR: composing and posting job adverts, responding to applicants, organising interviews, preparing contracts, performing inductions for new staff, booking freelancers, managing project resource requests and the time sheet system.
• Dealing with and keeping records of company suppliers, clients, freelancers, staff and job applicants.
• Managing and tracking music and app sales; as well as distributing CDs to customers.
• Keeping up with company policies and documentation such as insurance.
• Organising Plug-in events/activities such as parties, lunches, training and days out.
• Assisting with system administration: setting up new users, managing software subscriptions, coordinating with our external IT support supplier; sourcing and maintaining equipment.
• General clerical duties: ordering office supplies, answering phone calls, printing and collating documents, watering plants, maintaining office space, kitchenette and recycling bins, organising tea & coffee for clients etc.
• You will be responsible for the health & safety within the company.

Key Skills:
• You will have excellent interpersonal skills - a positive and cheerful disposition, both face-to-face and over the telephone.
• A can-do attitude.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent working knowledge of office software Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
• Previous Office Management and PA experience within the media industry desirable.
• Some book-keeping experience would also be beneficial

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract position, Monday – Friday 9.30am-5.30pm, based in our North Laine studio.

You will be familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash/Animate. Any experience with 3D software or Unity is not essential but would be a great bonus!

Head of Operations & Finance (Part Time)

Plug-in Media is a BAFTA winning production studio with a reputation for producing work of the highest quality. Purpose and Aims Within this newly created role, you will be directly invested in the future of Plug-in Media and eager to play a part in the company’s success. You will have responsibility for the financial and operational leadership of the company contributing at a senior level to ensure that the company and its work is delivered effectively and efficiently.

Key tasks / main responsibilities: Financial Leadership
• You will oversee the budgeting and scheduling of all our projects (in development or in production), working closely with our producers, Creative Director and Managing Director to help turn our ambitious, cross-platform ideas into reality.
• You will collate and review all project cost reports (supplied by our producers), checking the operational efficiency of all our work before reporting to the Managing Director.
• You will maintain the company’s cashflow, ensuring that all inflows and outflows have been accounted for and that an accurate snapshot of the company’s finances is available for the Managing Director on a weekly basis.
• You will work with the Office Manager to prepare all financial documentation required for tax relief claims and public funding audits.
• You will prepare management accounts on a quarterly basis, reporting to the directors on profit and loss and the balance sheet.
• You will prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• You will assist the Managing Director in the preparation of sales projections and projected management accounts for the preparation of business plans, both for individual projects and for the company.
• You will work with the office manager to ensure invoices are issued and paid on time.
• You will, on occasions, prepare project budgets, finance plans and cashflows.
• You will prepare end of year journals for our accountants and communicate with them regularly throughout the year.
• You will assist the Managing Director in the preparation of yearly budgets, reforecasting as appropriate.
• You will work closely with the Office Manager to ensure a credit control process is adhered to and to ensure that that our clients are paying and suppliers are being paid on time.

Operational Leadership
• Producers will report to you on all production matters (including but not limited to all costs, time, resource, legal, compliance issues related to each project). You will provide support with any immediate concerns and escalate significant risks and issues.
• You will negotiate with suppliers and freelancers, securing best rates and contracting them to effectively deliver our requirements.
• You will check that all requirements on projects are met and that our projects are closed, delivered the originally agreed specification and a happy client!
• You will work with the Managing Director to effect contract negotiations on significant production deals.
• You will review (and negotiate when required) all external contracts related to our projects, ensuring that our commercial interests are protected.
• You will liaise with the company’s lawyers to ensure our commercial interests are being protected.
• You will ensure best practice principles are implemented and adhered to across all operational processes within the business.

Additional Tasks
• You will be required to oversee payroll and ensure that the correct figures are reported to the Inland Revenue on a monthly basis.
• You will know your way around Xero accounting software and be able to use to run reports as required.
• You will be familiar with timesheet reporting systems and be able to use them to run reports as required.

What sort of person are we looking for?
• Someone with at least 3 years previous experience in a financial director, head of production, head of operations, OR senior production management role, ideally in TV, games or digital sectors.
• Someone with advanced analytical, budgeting and financial skills.
• You must understand the processes involved in the delivery of animation and interactive projects.
• You will have an understanding of production finance for both games and TV production.
• A great communicator, able to work effectively with all members of our team, clients and partners.
• You will have a broad understanding of the different business models at play in today’s digital media landscape.
• Someone who can negotiate effectively and deliver the best deal for the business.
• You will be a confident negotiator, who is not scared by ‘legalese’.
