Client: Nick Jr.
In February 2013, we were thrilled to be asked by Nick Jr. to come up with ideas for a pre-school TV show and began our development process to create two full-length pilots for a brand new pre-school TV show, Big Billy Little Billy.
Working with long-term writing partner, Jasper Gibson, Dom came up with a show idea based around the adventures of two billy goats called Billy, who live on a mountain. Insanely positive about everything, and generally insane, they are a pair of fast-talking and inseparable twin goats.
We made a fully animated 11-minute pilot in summer 2013, with character design by our in-house artist, Richard Butler. With a script in place, we took on storyboarding, animatic and design in-house before shipping the project to our animation pals in Bristol, A Productions. Dom directed the project across the work in Brighton and Bristol and worked with his songwriting friends to write and perform the music for the show, which was voiced by SpongeBob’s Tom Kenny and Family Guy’s Audrey Wasilewski.
Big Billy Little Billy entered the Nick Jr. testing process in the spring of 2014. Taken across the United States, it went down well with the audience, but there were concerns about scheduling for the network. So could we develop it again for 3-5-year-olds? You bet we could. And so in the autumn of 2014 work began translating the show for a younger audience and, this time, focusing on a new curriculum all about oppositional concepts. This resulted in our second concept, There’s A Panda In The Tree.
