Drum roll please…..we are thrilled to announce the launch of our very first app!

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic American pooch, Clifford the Big Red Dog, US publishing company Scholastic commissioned us to create a Clifford birthday party app – and for such an important birthday it was only right that we threw a very special party! We knew kids (and yes, big kids like us too!) would love the opportunity to plan a celebration for Clifford – making a cake, decorating and playing party games! Clifford’s BIG Birthday app invites everyone to celebrate this literary icon all whilst encouraging children to build language and literacy skills.

In Clifford’s BIG Birthday app, his friend Emily Elizabeth invites players to join her in Clifford’s BIG doghouse as she creates a surprise party for Clifford’s birthday. As players set up for the party, they can explore, touch, hear, and learn by decorating the cake, hanging streamers, choosing balloons and picking out a special present for Clifford.

Once the decorating is complete, players will help call Clifford into the house for the big surprise reveal. Once at the party, the app features three interactive and re-playable birthday-themed games. Each game reinforces the language skills needed for early-readers, including spelling, word families and sight words – all whilst playing with their favourite dog!

Users play through an interactive narrative underpinned with learning content that allows them to set up a birthday party for Clifford. As the narrative moves from party set up to full swinging party, the scenes become alive with animation and sound effects for users to interact with.

Text and instructions throughout the app are read aloud to create an experience fully accessible to readers and non-readers; a section for parents provides educational information about the app and suggestions for extending the learning outside of the games.

The application runs on iOS and Android devices (mobile and tablet) with navigation designed for touch input.

Clifford’s BIG Birthday app is available from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod.
