We created our original set of 3 Twirlywoos games way back in 2014, so they were long overdue an update. Not only has the HTML5 web technology that we used to produce the games advanced significantly, but also the TV show has also grown and developed, with a set of new characters being added to the original cast.

The first thing we did was to consider how we might incorporate the new characters into the games – so we created 3 new games to feature: The Box, The Paper and The Robot. We then wanted to reflect the TV show’s mix of “on the boat”, and “in the real world” environments, so the next two games, see the Twirlywoos venture outside to the beach and the garden. Here you can play with them as they water and grow the plants, and watch the rockpool creatures hide. Finally, it was imperative that we featured cute, squid-like Peekaboo. Here you can colour-in a picture, before Peekaboo clears the canvas away for you, with his squelchy indigo ink.

As with the earlier games, they all deliver simple interactivity within the feel of a interactive animation, with the player tapping hotspots to progress each step. Each game features minutes of bespoke animation, created to directly mimic the stop motion feel of the TV series. Finally, the games continue to directly refer to Early Years curriculum, featuring concepts such as: round and round, off-on, taller, shorter, over, up, wet, dry etc.

The games are available on the CBeebies Website and also within their Playtime Island app.
